Health Dimensions Group Recommended for Management of Chicago-area Facility

We are pleased to share that Health Dimensions Group (HDG) has been recommended for day-to-day management at Winchester House, a Lake County-owned health care and rehabilitation center in Libertyville, Illinois. The Winchester House Advisory Board, which consists of individuals with health care and financial expertise, recently conducted extensive analysis of Winchester House’s operations, finances, market position, and other factors. The analysis showed revenues remained relatively flat, while expenses increased.

The advisory board concluded the existing financial model was not sustainable and submitted a recommendation to the county board to explore contracting with a long‐term nursing care operator to manage day‐to‐day operations, and control costs. A review panel made up of representatives from the Winchester House Advisory Board and key county personnel conducted a comprehensive review of HDG’s quality of care surveys, performance records, financial records, and conducted announced and unannounced visits and interviews to several of HDG’s managed communities.

In a press release issued by Lake County, Ric Olson, senior living professional and advisory board chair said, “We visited five HDG locations. These site visits provided assurance that HDG will partner with the Lake County Board to not only sustain the mission of Winchester House, but to actively position it to thrive, despite a very challenging senior living environment. It is evident that HDG has a passion for serving seniors and making a difference each and every day.”

The recommendation has been submitted to the county board and the board is expected to vote on the agreement at its October meeting.

Winchester House will continue to operate and provide high-quality care under the management of a long‐term nursing care provider. Lake County, through the Winchester House Advisory Board and the health and community services committee of the county board, as well as the Lake County Board itself, will maintain active oversight of Winchester House operations.

Winchester House has been providing long-term health care for residents of the Chicago area for more than 150 years and is the oldest skilled nursing facility in Lake County. Services include:

  • 24-hour skilled nursing care and intermediate care
  • A rehabilitation department providing physical, occupational and speech therapy
  • Specialty care for patients with Alzheimer’s disease and related illnesses

The facility is home to 171 residents and has a staff of more than 200 employees.
